Macon/Bibb County

Effective October 1, 2021, Beyond The Bell began to provide substance abuse prevention programs and services in Macon-Bibb County. The emphasis is on prevention as we provide programs and services to prevent youth and young adults from beginning to use alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other drugs. Our programs are funded by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and free to the Macon-Bibb County community.

We will offer Life skills classes using the evidenced-based Botvin Life Skills curriculum which consistently has shown that it reduces tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana use in young people. Substance abuse by young people has long been regarded by health officials, community leaders, teacher, and parents alike as one of the most important problems facing the country.

In addition, we will consistently collect data to determine the use of substances in the community and to determine what programs might be effective in addressing these issues. We will engage the community and build a community coalition which will include parents, youth, other programs working with youth, the education community, local government officials, law enforcement and other stakeholders interested in collaborating with us to help youth navigate through the tough adolescent and young adult years. These coalition members will be involved with decision making, trainings, and community outreach under the adage it takes a village.
